Dr. James A. Snyder, DDS, MS Dr. James Snyder is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and is one of only a few dentists to be both a Diplomate of the Association of Special Care Dentists and the multidisciplinary American Academy of Pain Management. These achievements reflect Dr. Snyder´s primary professional interest which is combining comprehensive dental care with state-of-the-art pain and anxiety control, serving even those patients who have serious chronic medical problems or other compromising conditions. Dr. Snyder is also a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Dentists and the Academy of General Dentistry. His undergraduate degree in chemistry came from Allegheny College and his dental degree from the Ohio State University. Dr. Snyder served in the United States Navy and then completed his residency in anesthesiology at George Washington University Medical Center and later earned a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences. He is the author of numerous professional publications including chapters in two internationally recognized textbooks. Dr. Snyder has lectured internationally on pain and anxiety control in dentistry. He and his wife, Wendy, live in Alexandria.

Malinda A. Maynard, D.D.S. Dr. Maynard joined the Center for Dental Anesthesiology in 2006. Her commitment to providing exceptional care for special needs patients of all ages is the hallmark of her professional life. She received her dental degree from West Virginia University School of Dentistry and then completed a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, DC. This program emphasizes treatment of medically compromised patients in the hospital and in a clinical setting. Dr. Maynard then completed a Residency in Anesthesiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. She is an active member in the Northern Virginia Dental Society, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, American Association of Hospital Dentists, Special Care Dentistry and the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. She is a Certified CPR Instructor for Healthcare Providers. Dr. Maynard resides in Fairfax, VA.

Dennis Ahl, D.M.D., M.S. Dr. Ahl, consultant in periodontics to the Center for Dental Anesthesiology is a board-certified periodontist with over 30 years experience as a specialist. He received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh(1967), a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the George Washington University(1973), completed specialty training in Periodontics at the Naval Graduate Dental School, Bethesda, Maryland(1974) and was certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1978. A career naval officer, Dr. Ahl retired in 1987 with the rank of Captain. His positions included significant clinical, research, academic and administrative responsibilities, highlighted by assignments such as Director of the Periodontics residency program at the Naval Dental School, Bethesda, Maryland and Consultant in Periodontics to the Navy surgeon General. Maintaining an interest in education, Dr. Ahl was a faculty member at Valencia Community College, department of dental hygiene, Orlando, Florida 1994-2007. Over the years he has given over 400 lectures, continuing education programs, and scientific presentations nationally and internationally to dental association meetings, universities, societies and study groups. He has authored and co-authored scientific articles in the Journal of Periodontology, Journal of Dental Research, Dental Clinics of North America, Navy Medicine and the Journal of Preventive Dentistry. Private practice experience has included small and large multi-specialty practices and, since 1989, he has been associated with the Center for Dental Anesthesiology. While practicing in Virginia, a Washington, D.C. based consumer magazine solicited its readership to rate customer service of their dentists. Of 479 dentists in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia, Dr. Ahl was rated in the top 5% of all dentists listed, and the highest rated periodontist in the survey. His practice philosophy emphasizes a "practical approach to comprehensive periodontal care". Scope of services includes periodontal diagnosis/treatment planning, second opinions, non-surgical/surgical therapies, dental implants, regenerative therapy, cosmetic periodontal surgery, and preventive periodontal maintenance.

Joyce Xia, D.D.S. Having studied overseas in China, Dr. Joyce Xia has had international experience in providing the very best dental care. Joyce Xia (pronounced “SHAW”) earned dental degrees in both the U.S. and China. She received her dental degree in Shanghai, China in 1984. She practiced in China for two years before moving to the U.S. in 1987. She earned an additional American dental degree at the University of Pacific San Francisco for International Dental Studies in 1994. She was continuously listed on the Dean’s List and finished Number one in her graduating class. After graduation, her family relocated to Virginia. She joined our practice in March 1995. Dr. Xia’s treatment philosophy is comprehensive diagnosis to treat her patients in all aspects of dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Northern Virginia Dental Society. Joyce and her husband, Tony, have one daughter, Angela, and live nearby in Alexandria. |
