Pain Management
The simplest way to say it is this: “Pain is not good”
Sure, sometimes you exercise and revel in the ‘pain’, but no one, almost ever, hopes for pain. Most people organized their entire lives around avoiding pain; Any pain: physical, psychological, emotional, during or after procedures……..ANYthing that might cause or exacerbate pain. No one wants it and if you or a loved one has pain you want relief as soon and as completely as possible.
Dr. Jim Snyder and the Center for Dental Anesthesiology (CDA) are committed to the prevention and relief of pain. The science and technology to eliminate (or nearly eliminate) pain resulting from oral maladies and their treatment is safe and available for any patient and for any treatment provided by Dr. Snyder or other associated doctors at the CDA.
There must be a reason that a ‘dental appointment’ or ‘root canal’ is regularly used as a metaphor for an excruciating, possibly unbearable experience. The reason is that most people find visits for dental treatment stressful, painful or worse. Only about half of all Americans get regular dental care and the majority of those don’t go for needed care because of fear. Fear of pain. How did this come to pass. Surely, an abdominal operation or a joint replacement would be much more onerous than a root canal, yet, these (and other medical procedures) are seldom mentioned as a metaphor for misery. It isn’t that people would look forward to a joint replacement or coronary artery bypass but the overall experience is not as dread producing as a root canal because those procedures (not generally a root canal) are completed by surgeons in partnership with anesthesiologists. The discomfort and anxiety before during and afterward are included in the surgical management. The full spectrum of techniques ad strategies are utilized for every patient. The Center for Dental Anesthesiology and Dr. Snyder apply this same proven model for dental care. Whether you are a fearless dental patient or the most dentally traumatized victim in the USA, we can complete your treatment in comfort and safety. Whether you are able bodied or disabled, we can drawn on extensive experience caring for people just like you.
Any level of peri-operative (before, during and after) pain and anxiety control is readily available for any procedure (not just surgery). You will participate in the decision process so that you get exactly what you need, not just what a dentist offers (or doesn’t even confer with you about). Anesthesia and pain control that meets your needs and your budget, good plan, eh? We provide everything from local anesthesia alone to general anesthesia and everything between. Yes, we even sometimes give you a simple sleeping tablet, if that is appropriate. This is sometimes called “Sleep Dentistry” or “Sedation Dentistry” by others who try to make this one sleeping pill fit all needs.
First, though, a careful and accurate assessment of your needs and concerns is vital. No doctor can find what he or she doesn’t look for. Everything, even your painful ‘spot’ isn’t always what it seems. Dr. Snyder and the other dentists at the CDA WILL look for the best, most likely source of your pain. Getting the diagnosis (source) right will improve the odds of stopping it, don’t you think?
